The Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset, pursues undergraduate education, research education and internationally recognized research focusing on common diseases and injuries. The goal of all activities is to improve human health. The department has about 50 employees, 80 graduate students, 230 affiliated and a turnover of 70 million.

Division

The gynecology and obstetrics clinic at Södersjukhuset is one of Sweden's largest clinics in its area. The research and teaching within the field of gynecology and obstetrics at Södersjukhuset is broad and focused on childbirth as well as diagnostics and treatment of benign female diseases.

Duties

The employment has focus on education and research. The position as a Senior Lecturer and specialist physician includes responsibility for teaching within the medical program in the field of gynecology and obstetrics at the department, as well as working to develop the education of the medical program in collaboration with other KI departments. An important part of the work will be to coordinate teaching and provide courses together with the Senior Lecturer in pediatrics. Applicants should conduct their own research in gynecology, obstetrics or pedagogy.

The position is combined with a position as specialist physician within the gynecology and obstetrics clinic at Södersjukhuset, where clinical experience, suitability and expertise are essential in order to be able to organize the healthcare in the best way possible. The employment involves 50% teaching and research and 50% clinical work.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for employment as Senior Lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated both research- and teaching expertise, management-, development- and collaborative skills and clinical expertise. The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician within the gynecology and obstetrics clinic at Södersjukhuset and therefore the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in gynecology and obstetrics, or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

The applicant should have experience in teaching within the medical program as well as being clinically active. Applicants should have good knowledge of the Swedish language.

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (2), educational expertise (3), clinical expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, Karolinska Institutet will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
