Department
The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and delivers education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the societal level. Division
The Division of Eye and Vision located at St. Erik Eye Hospital is heavily involved in teaching related to ophthalmology and optometry. Within the division, the Unit of Optometry is responsible for the BSc program in Optometry and for the one-year Master program in Clinical Optometry. The unit also runs the university’s optometric clinic where students receive their clinical training. The department is now looking to recruit a professor who will be responsible for facilitating the development of activities within the Unit of Optometry.
Duties
The position has focus on education and research. The successful applicant is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of both education and research in the Unit of Optometry, thus strengthening the position of optometry within the university and beyond. Both theoretical and clinical teaching at all levels is expected, as is overseeing the development and quality assurance of optometric research in close connection to our clinical optometric practice.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research- and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills. (See instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.) The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.
The successful candidate will be a trained optometrist with an advanced level of knowledge within the field of optometry. Increasing demands for evidence based practice within the field requires the applicant to be able to demonstrate a strong background in research methods and design.
Bases of assessment
The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3) and leadership-, development- and collaboration expertise (2).
Since optometry as a research area is relatively recently established in Sweden, a broad optometric research profile is advantageous. A broad research profile is a merit since it is seen as a prerequisite for being able to further develop the field and support colleagues. Furthermore, we value in-depth knowledge about optometry internationally with respect to education, development and research.
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that are considered to have the best potential to contribute to the optimal development of the activities at KI.
Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English curriculum vitae, qualifications and description of planned research, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet’s qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/qualificationsportfolio).
The applications will be reviewed by external reviewers in English. All the submitted documents shall therefor be written in English.
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
