The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2017 of 470 million SEK. It comprises eight divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division

The Division of Physiotherapy at NVS conducts research, doctoral education and education at basic and advanced levels within physiotherapy. Approximately 40 teachers/researchers and administrators are employed, and 20 doctoral students registered. The division is located at KI Campus Flemingsberg. The division is in an expansive phase regarding both education and research as well as collaboration with clinical care.

Duties

The Division of Physiotherapy is looking for a person who is deeply committed to lead, develop and coordinate research, education and doctoral education in physiotherapy for disabilities, preferably neurological disabilities. In addition to performing high quality research, the candidate will be responsible for broadening clinical collaborations and increasing the level of research-based education. We expect the candidate to represent and develop the subject of physiotherapy for people with disabilities as well as to supervise students, PhD candidates and post-docs. Responsibilities also include teaching at basic, advanced and doctoral levels. The tasks will be designed and adapted based on the candidate's skills and interests and may change over time.

The appointment as a professor may, by special agreement, be combined with a position with clinical part-time employment at SLL, Stockholm County Council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills, and clinical expertise (see the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet). The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

For this position, documented ability to coordinate and lead is a requirement. The candidate is an active researcher, performing high quality research, contributing to the division’s development of education and research in physiotherapy in disabilities, and in particular in neurological disabilities. Further, formal leadership training and experience of academic leadership is required. 

The Division of Physiotherapy is looking for a person possessing a solid research profile in the field, with strong publications in international scientific journals as well as documented clinical experience in physiotherapy for people with disabilities, where research and experience in neurological disabilities is of particular merit. Experience of international collaboration is a requirement. The candidate should have extensive experience in project supervision in physiotherapy at basic, advanced, and doctoral levels. Formal professional education as a physiotherapist and/or registered physiotherapist is required. Specialist qualifications in physiotherapy within neurology is of merit. Extensive experience in teaching in addition to higher teaching education (minimum 10 weeks) or equivalent knowledge and pedagogic skill are required.

Bases of assessment

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3), and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) clinical experience (1).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
