We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our cutting-edge Flow Cytometry Core Facility here at Department of Medicine Huddinge (MedH), Karolinska Institutet as a Flow Cytometry Research Specialist. The Flow Cytometry Core Facility offers high quality service and state-of-the-art instrumentation to users at Karolinska Institutet, as well as external academic or commercial investigators. Applicants are invited to submit applications for a full time permanent position.  

The Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) Flow Cytometry Core Facility is located in the newly established NEO research building on the Flemingsberg Campus, integrated into the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM; https://ki.se/en/medh/center-for-hematology-and-regenerative-medicine ). The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is equipped with state-of-the-art analysers and cells sorters including one BD LSRFortessa, one Beckman Coulter Cytoflex S, one BD Calibur, one BD FACS Aria III and one BD FACS ARIA Fusion. Both cell sorters are used for cell sorting up to BCL 2+. In addition to ensuring that the instruments are operating optimally, the facility offers assisted cell sorting, interaction with investigators at a bi-weekly FACS Forum and training sessions for analysis and trouble-shooting. The Flow Cytometry Facility is under the line management by Professor Eva Hellström-Lindberg, the Head of HERM, who formally is the main responsible for the facility, and line manager for all staff in the Facility. A Scientific Director executes responsibility towards running the facility according to the user needs and the overall plan staff responsibilities through weekly staff meetings. The Flow Cytometry Facility also has an excellent Facility Manager with a long-standing experience in advanced flow cytometry. 

Duties
The post holder will support the Flow Cytometry Facility in providing smooth and reliable assisted cell sorting, perform day-to-day maintenance tasks towards both the instruments and general laboratory routines, assist users with acute questions/issues, arrange training sessions and help organize the FACS Forum. The Flow Cytometry Facility also offers the possibility for investigators to outsource their FACS experiments to the facility. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to work within a dynamic team involving other staff in the Flow Cytometry Facility and all its users, and to develop a career in cytometry.

Entry requirements

  • S. degree, BMA degree or higher.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to deal with frequent user requests with a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Prior experience in multi-color flow cytometry and in particular independent cell sorting on advanced instruments such as the BD ARIA is an advantage. 
  • Previous experience in biosafety is preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to do several tasks at the same time (e.g. operate multiple instruments at the same time)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Demonstrate ability to organize, plan and document work in the facility
  • Strong analytical skills
