Department

At the Department of Public Health Sciences we conduct research, teaching and applied work based on public health science and epidemiology. The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The field also includes health economics, health systems research and implementation research. Our activities have a strongly international flavour, and the Department's researchers are scientific advisers to authorities and other decision-makers on the regional, national and international level. The Department is divided into research groups operating within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine with a total of 150 employees. In addition, we have around 70 research students. This position is located in the Health System and Policy research group

Duties

You will be the project leader of a research project on pediatric referrals in Malawi with a special focus on the development of hypoglycemia during the referral process. You will be responsible for the development of the study protocol and data collection tools, application for ethical clearance locally and internationally and, in close collaboration with local colleagues, for the organization of data collection including supervision of research staff, logistics for data management, communication with local decision makers and authorities to make sure the study is performed in line with health center/hospital and university regulations. You will also be responsible for the coordination of meetings and communication within the research group. You are expected to actively develop the project in order for it to achieve its stated research objectives. You will be expected to be one of the leading authors of any publications from the project. The place of duty is Stockholm but with frequent travels to Zomba District in Malawi.

Entry requirements

The applicant should have a PhD degree in medical sciences within the area of epidemiology/global health.

The applicant must have experience of clinical work and/or research in low-income settings. Experience of project management and research within global child health is required. Experience from research on referral processes and/or research in Malawi is an advantage. The applicant must have good leadership and communication skills and experience from work in international teams. Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods is required as well as experience of data collection and management. Fluent English is a requirement. Knowledge of Chichewa is an advantage.
