The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.
Division
The candidate will be working in the Rheumatology division at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM, https://www.cmm.ki.se/), Solna. The Rheumatology unit consists of several research groups where basic and clinical research is performed. In particular, a strong translational research tradition between the clinic and the research laboratory exists at CMM.
Research group
The cellular immunology group is led by Professor Vivianne Malmström (https://www.cmm.ki.se/vivianne-malmstrom-team). Research is focused on understanding the contribution of T and B-lymphocytes in rheumatic diseases.
Project
We seek for a cell biologist/immunologist motivated to work in translational research in the field of autoimmunity. The current project aims at characterising effector functions of CD4+ T cells in Rheumatoid Arthritis. Key tasks involve the use of multi-parameter flow-cytometry, FACS-sorting, cell biology techniques and HLA-Class II tetramers on primary cells from RA patients and healthy donors. The applicant will have the possibility to actively participate in international collaborations already ongoing in the group (ex:RTCure, Innovative Medicines Initiative, Europe) providing the opportunity to create an international network. The group will also support the applicant to develop in an autonomous manner and creativity will be encouraged.
Duties
Set up and perform multi-parameter flow cytometry of antigen specific T cells in samples from healthy donors and RA patients. Prepare primary cells from blood samples. Perform in vitro cell culture of T cells and set up T-cell lines cultures. Use different immunology techniques (Fluorospot, HLA-Class II tetramers etc). Design experiments, analyse data with appropriate softwares (Flowjo, GraphPadPrism, etc), interpret and report data. Participate in teaching experimentation to students in the group and to common lab duties. Participate in scientific discussions, group activities and international congresses.
Entry requirements
The applicant should have:
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.
