The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) carries out both preclinical and clinical research within numerous fields. Linked to the department are approximately 450 researchers, postgraduate students, teachers and technical and administrative staff and we currently have about 150 PhD students. The department is conducting undergraduate courses for medical students, physiotherapist students, biomedicine students and biomedical laboratory students.

Division

Trauma care at the new Karolinska University Hospital in Solna is a large and important clinical profile. Within trauma care at Karolinska University Hospital, there is an increasing demand for orthopaedic traumatology research at an experimental and translational level studying wound healing as well as prevention of complications of immobility. Orthopaedic traumatology has a close connection to other important disciplines such as general surgery, reconstructive surgery and multi trauma. The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery has a responsibility for undergraduate education of physiotherapists and medical students as well as for post graduate education. The appointee will have responsibility for the development of the academic discipline of orthopaedics and traumatology.

Your mission

We are seeking a Professor who will lead and be responsible for research in orthopaedic traumatology and education within the discipline The new position is a replacement recruitment for a current position at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research- and teaching expertise, as well as management-, development- and collaborative skills and clinical expertise. The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.

The academic position will be combined with a position as a specialist physician in orthopaedic surgery at TRM (Trauma and Reparative Medicine theme). Therefore, the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in orthopaedic surgery or corresponding competence, as well as fulfil the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the clinical work includes contact with patients, the applicant must manage the Swedish language in accordance with the Swedish Health and Medical Service Act.

Bases of assessment 

The Professorship has focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3), leadership-, development- and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
