The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). Are you interested in contributing to world leading medical science? The KI Biobank is a core facility hosted by department of medical epidemiology and biostatistics (MEB) and its purpose is to provide professional sample and data services for world-class medical research that improves healthcare and public health. The facility typically serves defined research studies that collect and use samples or manage sample-related data. After fourteen years of steady growth the biobank now holds samples and related data from half a million Swedish residents. It is vital that our work is done to high ethical standards and an important part of our mission is maintaining full compliance with relevant laws. To manage this operation effectively we are updating our IT systems to an advanced level. We now need to ensure that it is sustainable, highly effective and can be further developed to meet evolving needs and opportunities.

Duties
The purpose of the role as System developer at KI biobank is to work with development and maintenance of the IT systems that support the operations of the KI biobank. This includes laboratory information management system (LIMS), enterprise service bus (ESB), the databases, and equipment control systems as well as data visualization.

The role-holder will gain a thorough understanding of the laboratory systems, processes and automation and, together with biobank leadership, develop an IT strategy that serves the long-term needs of the biobank business units.

Entry requirements

  • University degree in IT and system development or equivalent discipline
  • Programming skills in Java
  • Experience of version control
  • You are flexible, structured and have good collaboration skills
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral English

Desirable skills

  • Experience in using either Oracle and/or SQL server
  • Experience in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Good knowledge in both written and oral Swedish

Emphasis will be on the applicant’s personal qualifications and ability to learn new skills.
