Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för mikrobiologi, tumör- och cellbiologi, Schlisio

Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 80 PhD students, 77 postdoctoral researchers and 32 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Division
The Schlisio lab at Karolinska Institute, Sweden, seeks a postdoctoral fellow, to work on molecular mechanisms of oxygen sensing and cancer.

Our research concerns the mechanisms of how disruption of oxygen-sensing pathways can lead to cancer. Oxygen sensors enable the cell to adapt to low-oxygen environments and are critical for normal development and apoptosis. These events are often disrupted in the development of tumors. Oxygen sensing is mediated partly via prolyl hydroxylases that require molecular oxygen for enzymatic activity. Our work focuses on how prolyl hydroxylases execute apoptosis in neural precursors during development and how disruption of this process can lead to certain forms of nervous-system tumors.

Duties
(1) We are seeking a motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in tumor mouse models arising from the sympatho-adrenal lineage, such as neuroblastoma and pheochromocytoma, with the aim to understand the molecular principles of these tumors at a previously unprecedented level.

(2) Furthermore, we are looking for motivated, creative post-doctoral candidates interested in cancer metabolism with knowledge in basic biochemistry and molecular biology. We currently defining how oxygen sensing regulates mitochondrial dynamics and mass

Entry requirements
Successful applicants must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group and have good English communication skills.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
