Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division
Our vision is to contribute to people’s health through research, education and interprofessional collaboration in nursing based on scientific evidence. The Division of nursing conducts education at undergraduate and advanced levels, doctoral education and research within the field of nursing. Nursing education has focus on the individual’s whole life span in different contexts; care of children and adolescents, primary care, home care, emergency care, nursing homes and geriatric care, palliative care. Our research is prominent and internationally renowned with the aim to contribute to the theoretical development of nursing. Approximately 100 teachers/researchers and administrators are employed and some 20 doctoral students registered. The majority of the courses are given in Swedish.

Duties
The division’s activities are founded in knowledge that supports health, alleviates suffering, increases participation and provides fundamental care needs. The division is seeking a qualified senior lecturer/associate senior lecturer with a strong commitment to lead and develop education and research within care for adults and elderly and with a focus on nursing science. The tasks are designed and adapted based on the applicant's competence and interest, but also based on the needs of the division and may change over time. The position includes teaching, course responsibilities, academic supervision and examination of thesis on bachelor and advanced levels and may be combined with clinical work.

Research time is included in the position.

Entry requirements
All senior lecturers at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. A PhD in nursing science or equivalent is a basic requirement. The applicant should have or be close to achieve qualifications equivalent of a docent at KI.

We are looking for an applicant with a degree in nursing, however a degree in another health care profession relevant for nursing education may be taken in consideration. The position requires a formal university pedagogical training. The applicant should have active research of high quality which supports the development of education and supports health, alleviates suffering, increases participation and provides fundamental care needs.  

We wish the applicant to have thorough knowledge in nursing and experience in teaching within care for adults and elderly is highly meritorious. The position further involves internal and external collaborations and we will therefore highly value team working skills and   flexibility. Furthermore experience of working in/towards national and international committees is an advantage.

The employment is announced as Senior lecturer, but in the event that no candidate fulfills the Senior Lecturer/Docent criteria, the top candidate can be employed as Associate Senior Lecturer with a possible conversion to Senior Lecturer once the set criteria have been accomplished. The successful application for Docentur must have been submitted within three years from commencing the employment as Associate Senior Lecturer, for the possible conversion to take place. The qualification requirements for Associate Senior Lecturers are a Degree of Doctor and good pedagogical credentials as defined by the Regulations for Docentur at KI (including 5 weeks of training in university-level teaching and 120 hours of teaching).

Bases of assessment
The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: educational expertise (3), research expertise (2), leadership development and collaboration expertise (1).
