Department
At the Department of Public Health Sciences, we conduct research, teaching and applied work, based on public health science and epidemiology. The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The field also includes health economics, health systems research and implementation research. Our activities have a strongly international flavour, and the Department's researchers are scientific advisers to authorities and other decision-makers on the regional, national and international level. The Department is divided into research groups operating within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine with a total of 150 employees. In addition, we have around 80 research students.

Since 2002, the department has a centre for research on health care in disasters. The centre is involved in research, training and policy work in the field of global disaster medicine. The centre has expanded significantly in the past years. To ensure competence in research and teaching and to further develop and strengthen the centre, the department is now looking for a professor in global disaster medicine with a focus on education and research.


Duties
The employment is directed towards education and research. We are looking for a researcher with extensive experience in global disaster medicine. The new professor will have overall responsibility for the Centre’s activities and is expected to contribute significantly to its development. With the aim of improving public health and health care response following disasters, the new professor will pursue high-quality research, take responsibility for and develop independent courses and programs in disaster medicine and actively engage with WHO and other partners to develop background for disaster medicine policies and assist in their implementation.


Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills. The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent knowledge.


Bases of assessment
The position is directed towards research and education. In our assessment of applicants, we will place considerable emphasis on scientific and pedagogical excellence.. The qualifications will be weighted as follows: scientific skills (factor 3), pedagogical skills (factor 3), leadership, development and collaboration skills (factor 2).

 Applicant must:

  • Be an independent researcher with publications of high scientific quality in the field of global disaster medicine.
  • Have documented experience of leading research projects within the field.
  • Have established international research and education collaboration in the field.
  • Have developed and been responsible for education of good quality at different levels within the field.
  • During the last five years have received significant research grants in competition
  • Have clinical emergency medical care experience from disaster areas.
  • Have experience from producing backgrounds for policy documents in the field.

Meritorious is: experience from both qualitative and quantitative research methods, research and teaching experience within the field of global health as well as experience of expertise in relation to support of policy implementation
