The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

Duties
IMM seeks a toxicologist who is expected to strengthen and further develop research in experimental toxicology with focus on new methods and their applications regarding e.g. biomarkers, biomonitoring, risk assessment or setting exposure limits. The professor in toxicology is expected to lead a research group and to teach and supervise at all levels from undergraduate students to junior researchers. He or she is also expected to participate in toxicological risk assessments and expert committees at national and international levels. The professor is further expected to actively contribute to the development of IMM and its strong academic environment with collaborations, seminars and other scientific interactions.

Entry requirements
All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. The eligibility requirements for appointment as a professor at KI are specified in the "Appointment procedure for teachers at Karolinska Institutet"

All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate an excellent record of scholarly and teaching activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong international research profile in toxicology, as documented by the number and quality of papers published in international journals. The applicant must have been the principal recipients of research funding granted in national or international competition during the last fiveyear period, and have the potential to secure further funding within the research area. The applicant should show successful supervision of doctoral students through to the public defense of their thesis and of postdoctoral fellows. Broad experience from toxicological risk assessment is a merit.

Bases of assessment
The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (1), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).
