The Ernfors laboratory investigates the ascending and descending neural pathways in the somatosensory system, that underly the ability to sense touch, temperature, itch and pain. They combine molecular, computational and systems neuroscience to establish the neuronal basis and organisation of the somatosensory nervous system and apply this knowledge to provide insights into the molecular processes that are the cause for chronic pain. The Ernfors lab is part of the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, which brings together outstanding scientists using interdisciplinary approaches in a collaborative and stimulating environment. The Division is within the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics and is housed in the Biomedicum research building, which provides modern technological platforms and opportunities for cross-disciplinary interaction.
You will support the group’s efforts to unravel the molecular mechanisms and neuronal substrates of chronic pain. Responsibilities include performing behavioral experiments, virus tracing experiments, spatial transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry and chemogenetic behavioral experiments; training and technical support will be provided to learn new methods, if needed.
Position overview
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position in Patrik Ernfors’ group at the Division of Molecular Neurobiology. We welcome applicants who hold an M.S. degree or who expect to receive an M.S. degree within the next two months. Candidates with experience in molecular neuroscience, mouse behavior and surgery will be prioritized.
We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to study the molecular mechanisms and circuitry of the descending modulatory pain pathway using advanced molecular and systems-level neuroscience.
This position is well suited for individuals who aspire to pursue a PhD as the next stage in their academic career.
