Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Andersson-Rolf lab is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic research assistant who is interested in pursuing an academic career and has experience in mammalian cell culture.

Join the Andersson-Rolf lab to investigate the role of cell identity in bridging developmental mechanisms with those underlying adult pancreatic regeneration and pathology. By developing and applying primary human adult and fetal pancreatic organoid models in combination with (spatial)omics, genome- and bioengineering we seek to leverage insights from developmental biology to decipher the mechanisms of adult pancreatic regeneration and disease.

The Andersson Rolf lab is part of the unit of Medical Systems Bioengineering at the of  Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB), one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet.

MBB performs basic research and education in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular and genome biology, cancer biology, as well as stem cell and developmental biology to understand fundamental cellular processes and how dysfunction in these processes can cause disease. MBB is located in the beautiful new Biomedicum research center, along with four other departments. You will join a vibrant community of over a thousand researchers, with outstanding facilities and a wide range of talents. Biomedicum is situated close to both the Karolinska University Hospital (for clinical collaborations) and the Science for Life Laboratory, a national research infrastructure of unique technologies.

Your mission

As a research assistant, you will combine human organoid technology and genome engineering to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cell identity establishment and maintenance in pancreas development. The goal being to prepare you for a continued career in academic science.  You will:

  • Establish healthy and disease-derived primary human adult and fetal pancreatic organoid lines.
  • Perform genome engineering (knockout, overexpression and reporter lines) to study gene function in organoids.
  • Generation and analysis of single cell RNA-Sequencing data.

You will collaborate closely with experts in organoid technology and single cell RNA-sequencing, contribute to general team tasks, and work in a highly interdisciplinary, diverse and international environment. The working language is English.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates who see a PhD as the natural next step in their journey (academic career). If you are driven by curiosity, eager to contribute to cutting-edge research, and committed to advancing knowledge in developmental and regenerative biology, this opportunity is for you.

Required skills and interests:

  • You have a Master's degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in developmental and stem cell biology.
  • Strong motivation for creative problem solving.
  • Experience in interpreting biological data.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with molecular biology methods.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Good sense of responsibility.

Meritorious (considered a plus):

  • Experience in and testing hypotheses experimentally
  • Experience with pluripotent stem cells and/or tissue stem-cell derived organoids
  • Experience with CRISPR-based methods.
  • Knowledge of pancreas and stem cell biology.

What do we offer?
