Applications are invited for the postdoctoral position in immunology to join Joanna Rorbach group (Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics) at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden).
This interdisciplinary project leverages expertise in mitochondrial disease and molecular immunology to investigate the mechanisms and consequences of mitochondrial dysfunction in patients with inherited disorders and in animal models of mitochondrial pathology. The goal is to uncover novel insights into the role of mitochondria in human immunity through detailed molecular characterization of these disease models.
Joanna Rorbach’s lab: Our current research encompasses genetic, structural, and biochemical studies to understand the regulation of gene expression in mitochondria, often in the context of immunity (e.g. Shao et al. Nature Communications 2025; Zhang et al. JCI Insight 2023; Kruger et al. Nature Commun. 2023; Itoh et al. Nature, 2022 Cipullo et al. Nature Commun, 2024). The overall aim of the group is to combine these different areas of research to get insights into disease pathophysiology and to develop novel treatments.
The successful candidate will join an international team of enthusiastic researchers at Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics. Stockholm is a vibrant international megapolis with one of the highest quality of living standards in the world. Virtually everyone in Stockholm can speak English and English is the only working language of the groups.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required.
