Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för medicinsk biokemi och biofysik/Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Vascular Biology

Scope of the lab
The Jakobsson lab investigates processes of vascular morphogenesis and function in development and disease, including malformation with direct connections to human pathology. The lab utilizes mouse models with fluorescent reporters and inducible genetic loss- and gain- of-function in combination with state-of-the-art confocal live imaging (multi-photon, in vivo and ex vivo). The lab has an extensive scientific network within the field.

The project
The projects are extensions of our previous findings on endothelial cell behaviour and gene expression in vascular patterning and malformation in relation to components within the TGFbeta/BMP super family. Data acquisition will be facilitated by novel mouse models and in vivo time-lapse microscopy. For available technologies please visit the website.

Who are you?
We are looking for a highly motivated person with a passion for understanding biology in depth.

Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in the field of molecular biology, biotechnology/engineering or similar.

Previous experience in confocal microscopy and/or image analysis, in vivo experimentation, vascular biology, tissue culture, cell signalling, would be an advantage. A strong publication record is highly desirable.

The candidate should be self-motivated and driven with good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. A high level of English, spoken and written, is a requirement.

Type of scholarship
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies.  This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt.
