The department of Medicine, Solna is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet, and consists of several divisions divided into different research groups. The research at the division of Cardiovascular medicine ranges from basic research at the molecular and cellular level translational and clinical studies.
Specifically, our research team aims to reveal the disease mechanisms underlying ascending aortic aneurysmal disease. A unique in its kind clinical cohort and biobank has been built in close collaboration with the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, Karolinska University Hospital Solna, enablig patient-specific phenotyping. We integrate molecular cell biology, multiomic analysis, epidemiology, and genetics to unravel disease pathogenesis, with several national as well as international collaborators.
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to strengthen our team. You should have a broad knowledge and experience in experimental work, data analysis and processing of data, preferably in the cardiovascular field. You will work closely in a team with molecular biologists, laboratory technicians, clinicians, PhD-students and bioinformaticians where your role will be to lead and perform experimental work using molecular and cellular biology technique such as siRNA, histology and microscopy, next generation sequencing and cell culture models, conduct data analysis, but also participate in the collection and handling of surgical biopsies. You will also participate in supervising doctoral and master/undergraduate students. We expect you to work in a diligent and responsible way, generating properly controlled scientific data of high quality.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, you must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate, preferably in the field of vascular biology, molecular biology, or related fields. You should be creative and goal-oriented, with a scientific drive and proven scientific track record. You should also be able to work independently and take a strong lead in managing the progress of the project. Previous experience within the field of vascular cell biology is particularly meriting. Handling and analysis of omics data and the programming language R skills is meriting. Good communication skills in English, spoken and written, are required. Personal suitability for the group will be a strong selection criterion.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of eleven divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
