The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.
The position is placed in the laboratory of Marianne Farnebo. We study the function of non-coding RNA and RNA-binding proteins in DNA repair and chromatin remodeling, and how defects in these processes contribute to cancer and developmental disorders. A number of techniques required to study RNA and DNA repair are already up and running in Farnebo laboratory, including RNA immunoprecipitation, RNA FISH, generation of site-specific DNA damage and various biochemical approaches.

Farnebo laboratory is located in Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna under one roof to promote collaboration. Biomedicum house approximately 1,600 researchers and other personnel and allow expensive equipment to be shared and utilised more effectively.
Accumulating evidence reveals that RNA plays a key role in the regulation of DNA repair and genome stability. However, the underlying mechanism(s) remains poorly understood.
The postdoc will perform research focused on RNA biology and DNA repair employing human cell lines as model system, including cells from patients with dyskeratosis congenita disorder.
This project is designed not only to elucidate novel mechanisms underlying the regulation of genome stability via RNA, but also to provide new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment of associated diseases. A better understanding of the function and regulation of RNA in connection with DNA repair may pave the way for novel anti-cancer therapies based on restoring or blocking specific RNAs.
To build a strong and creative research team, we are looking for high achievers from universities around the world. We will offer an intellectually stimulating environment and we look for talented people who will play a part in developing our next breakthrough ideas.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Stockhom
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
The scholarship may be paid by Radiumhemmets Forskningsfonder. In this case other payment conditions may apply.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
