In our team, you will develop your laboratory, analytical and supervising skills, working in a clinically oriented team focusing on patient benefit. You will join a dedicated group of preclinical and clinical researchers focusing on the molecular etiology of endocrine tumors and tumor-like conditions, including lesions of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, in addition to neuroendocrine neoplasia from various anatomical sites.
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.

Scientific expertise will be the most important aspect when assessing applicants for this position.
As an Assistant Professor in our laboratory, you will be assigned projects related to specific molecular aberrancies driving thyroid and adrenal tumors. You are expected to 1) master conventional laboratory techniques such as Sanger sequencing, quantitative real-time PCR and protein-based analyses (Western blotting and immunohistochemistry), 2) exhibit knowledge regarding functional experimentation in cell lines and cancer-related functional studies such as assays targeting viability, apoptosis and migration/invasion, 3) master various visualization software for biological processes such as BioRender, R, Loupe and Rosalind, 4) act as a senior researcher in projects run in collaboration with state-of-the-art core facilities, 5) supervise research students, PhD candidates and postdocs in all aspects of research activities, and 6) support the educational network at the department through lectures and seminars related to your research field.
The applicant has obtained a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the date of employment. Expertise in experimental molecular research regarding endocrine neoplasia and scientific publications in the field is highly meritorious, especially thyroid cancer. Moreover, knowledge regarding the following specific biological properties is also considered beneficial to the application; a) thyroid tumor genetics, b) dysregulation of micro-RNA processing in human neoplasia, c) regulation of iodine transport in thyroid cells and d) pre- and postoperative diagnostic markers in thyroid cancer. A completed postdoctoral period is also considered meritorious, especially if conducted in an internationally esteemed endocrine neoplasia laboratory. Since research is based on communication, we particularly value socially adept applicants who have previous experience from working in different countries. The applicant must be fluent in English.

An Assistant Professor employed in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a shall be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet and is assessed to be suitable for such employment in accordance with the assessment criteria that KI has decided should be applied when being promoted to Senior Lecturer. The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
