The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including aging, Alzheimer, biomaterial, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry immunology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 250 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in Neo at Campus Flemingsberg, a biomedical research building, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

We are looking for an Assistant Professor in Nutrition and technology-assisted behavioural measurements to work within the IMPACT research group (Innovative use of Mobile Phones to promote physical ACTivity and nutrition across the life span) that is led by Professor Marie Löf. The group has a wide research interest, spanning from clinical studies to real world data analytics, focusing on the use of novel technologies to monitor health-related behaviors and support behavioral change. For the current position the successful applicant will be working within the Work Unit of Researcher Ioannis Ioakeimidis, within the scope of three recently funded EU research projects. The interest for the position is combining eHealth research clinical and real-world studies, using mobile- and virtual-reality-based tools for lifestyle related analytics and interventions, as well as qualitative research activities.
As an Assistant Professor you will be leading and conducting studies where hardware and software is implemented in schools and student volunteers, as well as within families with children living with overweight and obesity. The planned process includes iterative system evaluation, randomized controlled trials and intervention studies. You will be involved in all steps of the research project, i.e., planning, developing the study protocol and content, writing ethical applications, data collection and analysis, and writing manuscripts. The planned data analysis will require you to help automate data pre-processing and formatting and perform analyses using R. Mobile app and software development are also important within our working framework. Administration, research, and technical reporting for EU projects is also part of the responsibilities. Furthermore, you will be responsible for supervising doctoral and master’s student’s projects. This position also includes pedagogical responsibilities in the form of leading and teaching on Bachelor, Master’s, and Doctoral level in KI.

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.

Bases of assessment
Scientific expertise in the areas of nutrition, in combination with use of technology assisted methodologies for behavioural monitoring, modelling and modification will be most important when assessing candidates. Participation on all levels of school-based and clinical studies, including qualitative research and randomised control trials will also be important. Technical capabilities will be greatly appreciated, as will be prior experience working within EU funded projects. Excellent writing and communication skills in Swedish are welcome but not required. These skills will be assessed through research experience, publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and established international collaborations. Due to the mHealth focus of the research group, extra weight will be placed on collaboration in technological projects and experience with software development. Pedagogic training and skills, together with teaching experience will also be of great importance when assessing candidates.

The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
