Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A fully funded postdoctoral position is now open to study the transcriptomic landscape of the immune system, with a focus on lymphocytes and mast cells. The position is shared between the laboratories of Dr. Taras Kreslavsky and professor Gunnar Nilsson, renowned researchers in the fields of lymphocyte immunology and mast cell biology, respectively. The candidate will be part of a interdisciplinary research program that integrate experimental models, patient material and cutting-edge technologies (e.g. single cell transcriptomics and proteomics) to understand the regulation of immune cell functions in health and disease.

Division

Our laboratories are part of the Division of Immunology and Allergy, Department of Medicine, Solna. The division consists of several groups working on different aspects of immunology, in an interdisciplinary fashion. We are located in the modern BioClinicum building and are well equipped for cutting-edge immunology research. We collaborate and have common seminars with many immunology labs across several departments on both Karolinska campuses. The recruited postdoc will interact with other bioinformaticians within the division.

Duties

We are seeking a Bioinformatician at post-doctoral level for a 24-48 months project. The main duties include advanced bioinformatic analysis with particular focus in single cell (sc)RNA-seq,  CITE-seq, scVDJ-seq, scATAC-seq and spatial transcriptomics analysis. Successful candidate will be involved in the design of the experiments, analysis and visualization of the data and manuscript writing – with clear possibilities of high profile first/co-first authorship publications. The applicant is expected to have a strong interest in biological and/or biomedical research. The applicant will work in close collaboration with other PhD students, postdocs and researchers. The applicant is expected to actively participate in other lab projects and present results to general and specialized audiences.

Entry requirements

Qualified candidates should have:

  • A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with documented knowledge in bioinformatics or computational biology.
  • Substantial experience in analysis of NGS datasets (in particular scRNA-seq and related technologies) is a strong advantage.
  • Outstanding creative thinking, problem solving, motivation, persistence as well as personal initiative and communication skills
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Fluent in both oral and written English

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research groups of Taras Kreslavsky and Gunnar Nilsson.

The successful candidate will join an international team of enthusiastic researchers. Stockholm is a vibrant international megapolis with one of the highest quality of living standards in the world. Virtually everyone in Stockholm can speak English and English is the only working language of the groups. The Karolinska Institute is one of the centers of excellence for biomedical research in the world (ranked as 8th in the world in Life Sciences and Medicine by QS World University Ranking). It possesses cutting edge infrastructure including facilities for flow cytometry, microscopy, NGS sequencing (the institute is one of the world leaders in single cell RNA-Seq) and transgenic technologies.
