The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Clinical Geriatric, with over 100 employed and affiliated researchers are located both in Neo, Campus Flemingsberg and in the Q-building in Solna. We conduct research focusing on cognitive impairment, dementia, and other aging related disorders, and education, among other medical graduates. Our research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with leading institutions and clinics worldwide. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The division has a close cooperation with the Medical Unit Aging within Theme Inflammation and Aging at Karolinska University Hospital.
Research group
The postdoctoral position is for lab (experimental) based research and the postdoctoral fellow will be working in the research group of Professor Agneta Nordberg ‘Translational Molecular Imaging Lab’ which consists of multi-disciplinary team of experienced researchers and clinicians working at the forefront of translational dementia research. The research group has a translational approach using both in vitro and in vivo molecular brain imaging techniques, and our aim is to explore the complex pathophysiological features of neurodegenerative diseases, with a strong focus on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) but also other neurodegenerative disorders, to develop novel diagnostic markers and drug targets for early intervention in disease pathophysiology.
We are inviting applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher in translational research with a strong focus on understanding the role of different pathological hallmarks (Amyloid, Tau, astrocytes, microglia, synaptic loss and other biomarkers) in the pathogenesis of AD and other dementia disorders. The position will give you the opportunity to work on translational/clinically relevant projects aligned with the broad goals of the research group not limited to AD and involves other neurodegenerative disorders such FTD, Parkinson’s disease etc.
The duties will involve day to day lab work, compilation of data and manuscripts writing for publication, participating, and presenting progress updates in internal group meetings, division’s PhD/Postdoc seminars and journal club and at national/international conferences when required.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
We are looking for someone who has research and lab experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia disorders as well as hand on expertise in protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, cell culture and other biochemical techniques. The candidate should be self-motivated, with a strong interest in research, and able to work both independently as well as being a good team player with excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal). The candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented and collaborative, and with an ability to work without requiring extensive training or the need for close supervision. Experience of work in international research laboratories and good publications record are appreciated. The postdoctoral position is for 1-year initially with the high possibility of extension considering all the criteria are fulfilled.
