Do you want to do exciting science and contribute to top-quality biomedical research?

A Research Assistant position in Genomics is immediately available in the Bienko and Crosetto lab for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm.

As a Research Assistant, you will be working alongside other team members to further develop the GPSeq method, which our lab has recently established to profile the radial arrangement of the genome in the cell nucleus (Girelli et al, Nat Biotech 2020).

Specifically, we aim at adapting GPSeq to profile the radial distribution of RNAs and proteins in the nucleus, and your task will be optimizing different strategies, which we are implementing towards this goal.

You will be embedded in a dynamic research environment focused on 3D genome biology, molecular methods development and oncogenomics (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/). You will work alongside senior scientists, postdocs and PhD students from many diverse fields and backgrounds, having the opportunity to learn new concepts in biology, developing your experimental skills, and fostering your creativity.

Your mission

The GPSeq method, which we recently developed, allows studying how DNA is radially distributed in the nucleus and how genomic regions located in different parts of the nucleus are differentially prone to mutate.

We are now further expanding the scope of GPSeq to map the nuclear arrangement of RNAs and proteins, ultimately aiming at generating an atlas of the arrangement of all chromatin constituents in the nucleus of different cell types.

Your primary task will be working with other experimentalists in the lab, to develope newer versions of GPSeq specifically designed to profile RNAs and proteins radially in the nucleus.

You will be trained in GPSeq and various microscopy imaging techniques, which we routinely use to explore at the single cell level chromatin arrangement patterns revealed by GPSeq.

At the same time, you will have the opportunity to work alongside computational scientists, learning to apply advanced bioinformatic approaches to gain insight into the complex data that we generate with our methods.

Your profile

Are you a curious and creative person who likes to work at the bench and experiment? Do you want to develop knowledge and skills in the exciting field of 3D genome biology? Are you meticulous, attentive to detail, analytical, and self-critical? Then you are the right person!

If you have previously worked with NGS techniques, that’s great! However, we also welcome applications from people without prior experience in NGS who have a demonstrated track record of working with molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques.

To be eligible for this position, you must hold a bachelor and/or master’s degree in biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, medicine, biomedicine or equivalent.
