Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Division

Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) is a research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge with a focus on bringing together basic and clinical competences to pursue cutting-edge research improving the understanding of mechanisms involved in normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The ultimate goal is to translate novel scientific findings into the clinic, thereby improving patient outcome.

Description of the project

The vision of Hong Qian’s group is to unravel the role of hematopoietic niche in myeloid leukemia with molecular pathways mediating the interactions between leukemic cells and their niche during leukemia progression and treatment response.  The ultimate goal is to identify new niche-based therapeutic targets for better treatment outcome of diseases.

The group so far has been mainly focusing on the mesenchymal niche in myeloid leukemia in patients and mouse models. The main technologies used include multi-color flow cytometry, confocal imaging, lineage tracing, in vitro and in vivo stem cell assays including coculture and transplantation, as well as advanced molecular tools including RNA sequencing, digital PCR and single cell PCR.

Duties and requirement

We are looking for a highly self-motivated person with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology with a keen interest in leukemia microenvironment. Experience in working with tumor microenvironment, molecular and cellular biology techniques, multi-color flow cytometry, confocal imaging and mouse modeling is highly desired; and good ability to communicate in English (written and verbal) is required. The successful candidate will conduct the research with a special focus on deciphering molecular pathways mediating leukemic stem cell interaction with their niche under the supervision of the group leader (Dr. Hong Qian). In addition, the candidate is expected to participate in several collaborated project throughout her/his postdoc training.

The candidate will be working a collaborative environment at HERM and will be given the opportunity to participate in national and international scientific meetings. Additionally, the candidate is expected to participate in supervision of junior students in the group.

It is considered as a merit if the applicant has experience in laboratory animal work (as documented by FELASA C or equivalent) with at least three years hands on experience working with mice.

The position will be funded for 24 months, with a possibility of extension of 2 additional years.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
