Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The Exosome group is led by Professor Susanne Gabrielsson at the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology and Allergy. The group studies natural nano vesicles called exosomes. Exosomes are messengers that transport information between cells, and they are studied as mediators of disease, biomarkers and therapeutic tools. The group is specifically interested in the immunologic role of exosomes and how they can be applied in immunotherapy. Dr. Grunewald, co-supervisor, is an expert in the immunology of sarcoidosis.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The PhD student will work on studies focussed around the role of exosomes in lung diseases, both sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive lung diseases. The student will also investigate the role of leukotrienes in exosomes as mediators of disease. The studies will be performed in model systems in vitro and in vivo. The studies will include work on patient material, cell lines and primary cells. The work will also contain handling of animals and studies in animal model systems. Methods used in the study include biochemical methods, as well as cellular and molecular immunological techniques
