The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The division of breast cancer research has the overarching aim to lower the incidence and mortality of breast cancer, a potentially fatal disease that is increasing dramatically throughout the world. The division leads several complementary efforts to achieve these aims, including the KARMA study of 71,000 women recruited at mammography screens, the Karisma study focusing on elucidating the effectiveness of Tamoxifen in breast cancer prevention and strong engagement in the international BCAC human genetics consortium. In addition, the unit leads the SCALLOP consortium, which is an international collaborative network for PIs with an interest in integrating human genetics with Olink proteomic data and clinical factors in human cohort studies. www.olink.com/scallop. The overall aim of SCALLOP is to identify protein biomarkers that either correlate with disease or are causal in disease, with the latter being enabled by large-scale mapping of protein quantitative trait loci followed by Mendelian randomization studies.
