Your mission

The fellow will participate in formulating and testing scientific hypothesis with experimental work, presentations and preparation of publications.  The fellow will be responsible for academic, research and administrative activities and expected to adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques, test hypotheses and analyse data from a variety of sources. The studies will include work on scarce patient material and primary skin-and white adipose tissue (WAT) derived cells. The position requires attendance and contribution to laboratory meetings, communication of results to the principal investigators and co-workers, and to maintain accurate and detailed experimental records. Additionally, collaborating in a clinical study with pharmaceutical company requires previous interactions with industry.

Your profile

We seek a candidate with demonstrated scientific accomplishment at the graduate or postdoctoral level. A PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology or related sciences is required, ideally with first author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and proven skills in cellular immunology research. Prior experience in mouse and human cellular immunology, including multicolour flow cytometry and unassisted fluorescence activated cell sorting of tissue derived cells, ex vivo cell culture with cell-based cytokine neutralization assays, analysis of gene expression together with changes on chromatin level (ATACseq, methylation) is necessary for this position. Previous involvement of managing clinical studies is essential. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and the ability to develop new experimental protocols are a prerequisite for any candidate. Fluent use of English in speech and writing is a prerequisite for the position. We need a person with strong organisational and communicational skills. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of Dermatologist and Senior Researcher Liv Eidsmo, Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Solna. The candidate will be working in the Rheumatology Unit at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM, https://www.cmm.ki.se/), Karolinska Institutet. The Rheumatology unit consists of several research groups where basic and clinical research is performed. In particular, a strong translational research tradition between the clinic and the research laboratory exists at CMM.

Project

The Eidsmo laboratory focus on basic pathogenic mechanisms by which skin T cells drive chronic inflammatory diseases.  We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work in a project dealing with different aspects of human skin T cell immunology, both in academic settings and as part of a mechanistic study in a clinical trial. The work is based on cutting edge laboratory based immunological, molecular biological and genetic research performed in the laboratory at CMM, Karolinska Institutet.
