Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medicine, Solna, Rheumatology division

Department
The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) is a nationally leading and internationally competitive environment for studies of tissue inflammation. Ample interaction between groups interested in different aspects of basic and applied molecular and cellular immunology leads to innovative approaches to address basic and clinical biological questions. The Eidsmo laboratory is part of the Division of Rheumatology, where interdisciplinary research focus on tissue immunology and epidemiology. The laboratory offers state-of-the art techniques, from basic cell sorting of tissue derived cells to cutting-edge molecular and imaging techniques.

Duties
We seek a highly motivated person, preferably student, to help out with basic tasks in the laboratory, such as cleaning, preparation of tissue samples, performing enzymatic experiments and supporting the research group. This is a part time position of maximum 10 hours per week.. The work is performed in close collaboration with basic T cell biologists and clinicians to understand the fine-tuned balance between T cell biology in skin diseases.
The studies will include work on patient material, cell lines, animal models and primary skin-derived cells. Therefore, the prospective student will be involved in research methodology and project development in clinically relevant areas.

Entry requirements
Skills and personal qualities:
- High school studies in biology and research
- We seek enthusiastic and hard-working individuals with a critical mind and an interest in biology and immunology.
- Excellent communication skills and abilities to work in a highly dynamic international research team are essential.
- Excellent skills in English, written and spoken.
- Recent rotations in laboratories working on human tissue biology/immunology and knowledge of how to handle human skin and how to perform experiments with primary human skin cells.
- Knowledge of experimental techniques within immunology and molecular biology. In vitro or ex vivo experimental systems.

Assessment criteria
- Documented subject knowledge of relevance to the area of research
- Analytical skill
- Other documented knowledge or experience that may be relevant to doctoral studies in the subject

The qualifications of the applicants will be evaluated on an overall basis.:

Application
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
