Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för mikrobiologi, tumör- och cellbiologi

Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 80 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Division
This research builds upon work in the Westerberg laboratory aiming to identifying the molecular mechanisms of immunodeficiency diseases with specific focus on disorders of the actin cytoskeleton, cell signaling, gene regulation and genome organization. Using rare patient samples and unique animal models combined with state of the art imaging and genomic approaches, we aim at understanding the nuclear function of actin regulators in hematopoietic cells with the goal of developing novel explanations and treatment strategies for primary immunodeficiency disease and haematological malignancy.

Duties
The successful applicant will use a wide range of techniques to examine hematopoietic cells including ChIP-Seq, RIP-Seq, RT-qPCR based gene expression profiling, bioinformatics, tissue culture, and have experience from working both with murine and human cells and tissues. Experience in microgravity biology research is an advantage. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and organizational skills, a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, molecular oncology or a relevant area. A senior specialist is expected to lead her/his own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis both in the laboratory and with external collaborators, and guide students. The ability to work in a team is essential.

Qualifications
A person is eligible as a Senior research specialist if she/he has obtained a PhD or equivalent scientific competence. Normally the candidate should also have skills equivalent to docent at KI. The Research Specialist should also have the special knowledge that is important with regard to the tasks.

Application process
The application is to be submitted in Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
