Karolinska Institutet

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Division A position as lab manager is available in the lab of Carl Sellgren at the department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet. Sellgren lab recently moved to Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna. Our research focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms causing neurodevelopmental disorders and uses hiPSC-based models derived from patients in our collaborating clinics at Karolinska Sjukhuset. We have a particular interest in the role of microglia in brain development under physiological as well as pathophysiological conditions and have for example recently developed high-throughput assays for precise quantification of synaptic pruning in vitro. The research is well funded from e.g. Marianne and Markus Wallenbergs Stiftelse, the Swedish Research Council, and KI StratNeuro.

Duties Plan, organize, and lead experimental work in the wet lab including human 2D and 3D hiPSC-derived models, gene editing, image- and flow-cytometry based quantification of phagocytosis, scRNA seq, and drug screening.

Entry requirements A person is eligible for the position if he or she has obtained a PhD and have documented postdoctoral experience.

Other requirements Expertise and research experience in hiPSC-based cellular modeling. Previous work with genetic engineering, e.g., CRISPR genome editing, is meritorious. Experience in working with human immune cells are desired but not required. Fluency in English, have excellent writing skills, and be able to take the lead on projects. The fellow will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team including pre-clinicians as well as clinicians.
