At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.
We are seeking outstanding candidates for studies on stroma-tumor cell interactions in sarcoma. The project, co-supervised by Arne Östman and Monika Ehnman, is closely related to ongoing clinical developments of the PDGF-alpha-receptor antibody olaratumab as a novel treatment. The employment period is for one year with possibility of extension.
Division and duties
The successful applicant is expected to drive the postdoctoral project in the laboratory of Arne Östman. This translational research group has a longstanding interest in studies on tumor microenvironment, with particular focus on cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and PDGFR signaling. Studies in the group span a wide range and include discovery-focused studies on new CAF subsets and their regulatory pathways, as well as translational efforts to develop novel prognostic and response-predictive CAF-related biomarkers.
The group is part of “Theme Cancer” and Dept. of Oncology-Pathology (https://ki.se/en/onkpat/startpage) which constitutes the largest cancer research environment at Karolinska Institutet. This research community is composed of approximately 25 groups, led by tumor biologists, pathologists and oncologists, together creating an academic environment fostering collaborative studies and supporting career development.
