AIMES - Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences is a newly established interdisciplinary research center co-affiliated between Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Research at AIMES is characterized by intimate interactions between pre-clinical and clinical scientists and researchers with natural sciences and engineering backgrounds. Biomedical research in infection and neuroscience is addressed by the development of cutting-edge approaches based on Organic Bioelectronics, Organ-on-Chip technology, and Tissue Microbiology, which combines expertise in electroactive polymers, chemistry, microfluidics, neurobiology, microbiology, physiology, pathology and intravital imaging. Other areas of research include renewable biomaterials, sensor technologies and anti-fouling surfaces. AIMES has an explicit aim to translate scientific findings to societal use via strong interactions with external stakeholders.

AIMES is located in Biomedicum, KI Campus Solna. AIMES is hosted at KI by the Department of Neuroscience, world-leaders in research on the function of the nervous system in health and disease. AIMES host at KTH is the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology, the largest academic institution on native and synthetic polymers in Sweden.

Your mission

We are seeking a substitute for our Senior Lab Manager. The position is for a 6 months period.

The Lab Manager is a central organizational figure in our interdisciplinary research center. At AIMES we have a number of research groups with medical and/or engineering backgrounds that works together effectively and efficiently. The Lab Manager is essential in the process of designing and running a transparent environment and to coordinate the everyday running of the lab. The Lab Manager is responsible for ensuring a smooth operation of the lab including taking charge of practicalities such as ordering, chemical inventory, risk assessments, biosafety, waste management and work environment. The Lab Manager is responsible for introducing new and visiting researchers in the lab environment including training in BSL-2 techniques, instrument function, lab routines and SOPs critical to the running of the lab. The Lab manager is proactive and like to set up routines and processes and contribute to a high level of quality on the day-to-day work in the lab.

We are seeking a highly motivated, authoritative person with a broad skill set and a deep sense of responsibility. The candidate is service-minded, like to contribute to the success of a research team and to help with experimental work. To enable the person to fit in with our research environment we seek a candidate with the following skills/qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Swedish and English is required
  • Knowledge of ordering and approving invoices in Agresso.
  • Knowledge of work environment regulations for laboratory work including chemical safety and biosafety
  • Project management experience is a merit
  • Experience in mentoring students
  • Experience in establishing new methods
  • Excellent problem solving abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant field
