We are a highly interdisciplinary research group at Karolinska Institutet, combining cutting-edge experimental biology with advanced single-cell, lineage-tracing, and computational approaches to address clinically relevant questions in cancer and drug development. Our work is carried out in close collaboration with national and international partners, and in active interaction with clinical collaborators, core facilities, and industry partners. We are seeking a senior lab manager who wants to be a long-term cornerstone of this environment, combining responsibility for laboratory operations and safety with active scientific engagement, for example through contributions to research projects, method development, and recruitment-related activities. You will work closely with the PI in shaping scientific direction and strategic planning, with substantial influence over how the lab grows and evolves over time.

The research group

As senior lab manager, you will be an integral member of the Kasper Karlsson research group. Our group focuses on finding new drugs and treatments for cancer patients, which a specific focus on overcoming tumor heterogeneity, using tools such as state-of-the-art organoid technologies, high-throughput drug screening, cell barcoding and single cell sequencing. The group is located at Science for Life Laboratory, which hosts multiple cutting-edge facilities, and a community of researchers dedicated to improving technologies in life science, and we belong to the Department of Oncology-Pathology at Karolinska Institutet, which conducts basic, translational and clinical research related to cancer.

Your mission

You will work in close collaboration with the PI, PhD students, postdocs, and collaborators to support a well-functioning and collaborative laboratory environment. The role includes responsibility for laboratory management, safety, and administrative tasks, together with substantial hands-on experimental work such as cell culture, molecular biology, method development, and support of ongoing research. The lab manager is expected to be actively engaged in the scientific work of the group and contribute practically at the bench. We are looking for a highly engaged, structured, flexible, and curious team player who enjoys combining operational responsibility with experimental work.

Your profile

We are looking for a competent, organized, and engaged individual to take on a senior lab manager role in our research group. The position includes a broad range of responsibilities spanning laboratory management, safety, and hands-on experimental work, alongside active participation in scientific discussions and the development of experimental strategies. The role is well suited for someone who enjoys ownership, collaboration, and long-term involvement, and who is motivated by contributing to both the daily functioning and the strategic development of a research environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. biology, biomedicine, molecular biology, bioengineering, or related life sciences)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in parallel
  • Hands-on experience with experimental laboratory work (e.g. cell culture, molecular biology, or related methods; different experimental profiles can be considered)
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute constructively to scientific discussions, experimental planning, and a collaborative working environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Merits (not required)

  • Experience with laboratory management tasks, including ordering, invoicing, documentation, and responsibility for laboratory safety
  • Experience with cancer research or preclinical cancer models
  • Experience with single-cell–based methods, lineage tracing, or related technologies
  • Experience in method or workflow development
  • Experience contributing to experimental strategy, study design, or long-term planning in a research setting
  • Experience supporting or coordinating multiple research projects or teams
  • Experience with supervision, mentoring, or training of students or staff
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary, international, or collaborative research environments
