Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate that will work on advancing our understanding of how lipids influence stem cell behaviour, such as their self-renewal and differentiation, with the aim of boosting functional tissue regeneration.

The project will be performed collaboratively between Jonas Frisén Lab (Department of Cell and Molecular Biology), Pekka Katajisto Lab (Department of Cell and Molecular Biology) and Erdinc Sezgin Lab (Department of Women’s and Children’s Health). The postdoctoral fellow will be located at SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institutet.

SciLifeLab and KI are excellent places to carry out biomedical research. Our collaborative network is in the intersection of stem cell biology using organoid models, neurobiology, membrane biology and biophysics, aiming to reveal the molecular codes of cellular physiology and diseases. The candidate will greatly benefit from this interdisciplinary environment, immersion in a highly stimulating and supportive research community, collaborative network, and unique infrastructure.

This position is for 3 years full-time employment.

Application Deadline: 15 February 2024

Start Date: Summer 2024 (exact date to be discussed)

Your mission

The postdoctoral fellow will address the key role of lipids in tissue regeneration from the point of stem cell biology.

The project involves:

  • using intestinal and neural organoids
  • lipid manipulation techniques
  • applying advanced imaging tools
  • application of data analysis tools
  • work in close collaboration with the members of all three labs

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Essential:

  • BSc in life or natural sciences (biology, molecular biology, chemistry or similar) or MD
  • PhD in areas such as biology, stem cell biology, molecular biology, biomedicine, biophysics, biochemistry
  • Strong expertise in cell biology
  • Strong expertise in microscopy
  • Proficiency in basic cell and molecular biology techniques, and cell culture
  • Independent working skills, teamwork spirit and willingness to help PhD/master students

Desired:

  • Expertise in membrane biology
  • Organoid culture expertise
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python)

What do we offer?

All three labs are eager to provide the fellow with an opportunity to develop and/or apply state-of-the-art methodologies to solve timely biological key questions. Necessary training on organoids and advanced bioimaging technologies will be given to the fellows. We are eager to give the candidates opportunity to become fully independent researchers in interdisciplinary science within years.
