The Furlan laboratory, in the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, has an open position for a Research Assistant. The project is focused on the identification and characterization of the neurons and the circuits regulating energy expenditure. Circuits will be identified using viral techniques, imaged, and manipulated during both homeostasis and metabolic challenges (i.e. high-fat diet). Experimental read-outs will comprise behavioral and physiological parameters, as well as molecular analysis of gene expression. The candidate is expected to spearhead the project. The candidate will take part in weekly round tables and lab meetings, to informally discuss science and problem-solving. The candidate is expected to capitalize on the collaborative environment, availability of cutting-edge resources, and interdisciplinary expertise to achieve the research objectives.
Skills: the ideal candidate should have prior experience with murine models of disease and experience with the use of metabolic cages, metabolic data analysis and data interpretation. The candidate should also have experience in tissue perfusions, organ dissections, and processing of tissue for transcriptomics and immunohistochemistry.
Personal qualities: Initiative, motivation, and a keen interest in understanding and contributing to the fields of neuroscience and metabolism. The candidate should also demonstrate their ability to structure, plan, and carry out work independently, as well as the ability to work in teams and coordinate with others.
