Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The successful candidate will work on childhood neuroblastoma in the research group headed by Susanne Schlisio.
The group belongs to the Department of Oncology-Pathology, and is physically located at the Bioclinicum at Karolinska Institutet.

We explore the cellular origin of pediatric nervous system cancer, its developmental roots, and how it is linked to embryogenesis. Understanding how the sympathetic nervous system is shaped during development will give us important clues how neuroblastoma arises and what are the driving forces of its remarkable heterogeneity and phenotypic plasticity.

Your mission

We are seeking a motivated, creative Research assistant candidate interested in tumors arising from the sympatho-adrenal lineage, such as neuroblastoma and pheochromocytoma, with the aim to understand the molecular principles of these tumors at a previously unprecedented level. The successful candidate will work on the computational analyses of a large-scale single-cell transcriptome project on neuroblastoma. In this project we will generate “molecular encyclopedias” of this tumor in order to understand the molecular principles concerning the origin, progression and subtypes of this tumor at a previously unprecedented level, using state-of-the-art RNA-seq and bioinformatics technologies. Thus, the The successful candidate should have expertisein bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, single-cell transcriptomics, or a or a related discipline where sufficient bioinformatic expertise is demonstrated in life sciences.

Your profile

  • Knowledge in in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Single-cell transcriptomics, or a related discipline including where sufficient bioinformatic expertise is demonstrated in life sciences.
  • Firm knowledge in Unix/Linux, R or Python.
  • Experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Experience in big data management.
  • Knowledge of relevant biological areas (chromatin and gene expression, genetics and epigenetics).
  • Excellent knowledge in biostatistics.
  • Experience in genomics data mining and visualization.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality scientific outputs with a strong publication record.
