Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral fellow with solid immunology and mRNA delivery skills to join our highly accomplished team. We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier. The successful candidate will be part of a cluster of other researchers working on similar topics.

Your mission

The Buggert group conducts innovative studies on cell-mediated immunity in health, cancer, and viral diseases. These studies are translational in nature and involve the usage of cutting-edge bulk- and single-cell technologies, including high-parameter flow cytometry, gene-editing, mRNA delivery, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, and proteomics analysis to dissect the heterogeneity and function of memory T cell immunity. Through these platforms, we study various aspects of human memory T cell biology with an overall aim to i) investigate the heterogeneity of circulating and resident memory T cells in human organ donors, ii) identify alternative functions of memory T cells in human tissues, and iii) understand how we can improve current immunological therapies for diseases.

The postdoctoral candidate will work with questions centered on tissue imprints on T cell functions and the establishment of new mRNA delivery platforms to create CAR-T cells. The candidate will work in close collaboration with different members of the group to apply gene-editing technologies (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9) to mechanistically dissect different functions of human memory T cells in peripheral blood and tissues. As such, we are seeking a postdoctoral candidate with a PhD, who will work as an integrated member of our team, being involved in several ongoing projects and driving their project forward.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

To be considered for employment as a postdoctoral candidate, in addition to holding a PhD in the field of biomedicine, the candidate must have demonstrated research expertise and documented research experience in the field of T cell immunology during his/her doctoral thesis work.

The candidate should have received training in biotechnology and immunology during their PhD studies and must fully master mRNA-delivery techniques. Experience in sequencing techniques, flow cytometry, and gene-editing techniques will also be considered as merits. Applicants should have first-author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals, and fluency in English is a requirement.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has

  • Been trained in immunology during her/his PhD studies
  • Publications in the field of T cell immunology
  • Fully master mRNA-delivery platforms
  • Statistical knowledge
  • Generate flow cytometry data
  • Extensive cell culture background
  • Gene-editing technologies
  • Fluency in English

It is meritorious that the applicant has

  • Laboratory molecular and cell biology skill sets (e.g. preparation of RNAseq libraries)
  • Been trained in biotechnology during her/his Bachelor or Master studies

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to the positive development of the activities at KI.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
