Do you want to contribute to top quality research in regenerative biology?

The newly established Llorens laboratory offers a vibrant, stimulating and international environment. We are part of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, one of the world’s leading medical universities. The lab is located in Biomedicum, one of Europe's largest laboratories with ultramodern facilities and rich opportunities for collaboration and career development.

Division

Our lab is interested in stimulating regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). We aim to uncover the principles of cell fate regulation during development and repurpose them for regeneration. We use a multidisciplinary approach that involves stem cell biology, systems biology, computational biology, molecular engineering and mouse models of disease.

Using single cell multiomics, we recently discovered a latent regenerative potential in adult spinal cord stem cells and designed a targeted intervention to elicit such potential. This intervention stimulated endogenous remyelination and improved axon conduction after injury (Llorens-Bobadilla et al. Science 2020). In parallel, we are developing technologies for spatially resolved epigenomics (Llorens-Bobadilla et al. Biorxiv 2022) to interrogate repair processes in the injured CNS.

The current project aims at developing and applying single cell and spatial epigenomic technologies to study CNS repair.

Duties

We are seeking an ambitious, driven and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to develop and apply single cell and spatial epigenomics to address fundamental questions in cellular plasticity during CNS development and repair using the mouse as a model system.

Your profile

We are looking for highly motivated, independent, and self-driven candidates, with a strong track record and relevant experience during the PhD. The successful applicant is expected to have a background in one or several of the following areas: epigenomics, glial cell plasticity, reprogramming, gene delivery, CRISPR, neuroscience, mouse models and related techniques. A documented ability to independently carry out experimental research projects, as well as the certification for animal experimentation is required, as are good communication skills in spoken and written English. Experience with epigenomics technologies (e.g. ATAC-seq), glial cell purification, reprogramming, viral gene delivery in mice and/or bioinformatics will be considered an advantage.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including (expected) date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic education, current position and academic distinctions
  • A motivation letter
  • A complete list of publications
  • Names of three references

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
