Postdoctoral Researcher in Nanotoxicology

Engineered nanomaterials hold great promise in biomedical and other applications. However, the safety of nanomaterials should be carefully evaluated. The post doc will participate in nanosafety research in the national nanosafety project MISTRA Environmental Nanosafety.

Your mission

The successful applicant will work in a highly international environment at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. The project is focused on the biological impact of nanomaterials using advanced in vitro models with emphasis on the liver and the lungs. The project also covers the investigation of nanomaterials by using zebrafish larvae as a model. The project is embedded in the MISTRA Environmental Nanosafety program, and the post doc will participate in joint activities in the program including consortium meetings. The position is temporary for 12 months.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a post doc is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence in cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or toxicology. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment (documentation required). A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

Excellent communication skills (in English) and an ability to interact with other members of the laboratory, and with other consortium partners, are essential qualities. Experience with the following laboratory techniques is needed: cell culture techniques including both conventional 2D and 3D cell spheroid models, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and other standard cell biology techniques, as well as common techniques for physicochemical characterization of nanomaterials. Previous experience of working with zebrafish is considered advantageous.

List of publications, including original articles and reviews (do not send reprints);
Statement of current & future research interests and/or future plans (max. 1 page);
At least two signed letters of recommendation from current or former supervisors (submit scanned copies) (note: it is not sufficient to only list the names of referees).
