The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Thomas Perlmann at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet. The lab is located at Biomedicum, a new research building with excellent infrastructure and world leading research in many areas of biomedical science.

The lab’s focus is on the development and maintenance of dopamine neurons within the ventral midbrain. We are unraveling the signaling and transcriptional regulation that govern the specification, differentiation and maintenance of these cells. The studies have relevance for regenerative medicine and neurodegeneration in relation to Parkinson’s disease and other brain disorders. We are using mouse genetics and other methods including single cell RNA sequencing in our studies. In collaborative projects we also focus on regenerative strategies such as stem cell therapy, and on the maintenance of dopamine neurons in the human brain.

Position

A postdoctoral position is now open in projects devoted to questions concerning the development and subtype specification of dopamine neurons, and mechanisms underlying aging and dopamine neuron maintenance.

Entry requirements

The applicant should be a highly motivated individual who can collaborate and function well in a team. We are looking for an individual with a PhD in neuroscience, stem cells or developmental biology, and with skills preferably in more than one of the following areas: human embryonic stem cells, single cell RNA-sequencing and bioinformatics, mouse genetics, and histological methods. Previous experience with mouse animal work is also desirable and appropriate certificate for mouse animal work (FELASA C or equivalent) is a merit. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement.
