Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A postdoc position in Spatial Chromatin Biology is immediately available in the Bienko lab for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm.

As a postdoc, you will develop and lead an exciting project aimed at mapping the spatial arrangement of chromatin in the nucleus of mammalian cells and investigate how this higher-order organization contributes to regulate gene expression and ultimately shape cell identity.

You will work in a dynamic research environment focused on basic genome biology, molecular methods development and oncogenomics (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/). At SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institutet, you will have the opportunity to network with scientists and clinicians from many diverse fields and backgrounds, fostering your creativity and shaping your project from a non-conventional perspective.

Your mission

You will leverage on the GPSeq method which we recently developed in our lab (Girelli et al., Nature Biotechnology 2020 in press) and explore the radial arrangement of chromatin in different cell types and organisms, in both healthy and diseased states.

In parallel, you will have the opportunity to unleash your creativity by bringing GPSeq to the single-cell level and adapting it to profile the radial distribution of RNAs and proteins in the nucleus.

You will combine cutting-edge next-generation sequencing methods and high-resolution microscopy techniques, while working in synergy with experts in computational methods and modeling approaches.

Your ultimate mission will be to understand how the complex higher-order structure of chromatin in the nucleus of mammalian cells is established during the cell cycle, how it is dynamically reshaped during cell differentiation, and how it is rewired by genomic rearrangements that occur during carcinogenesis.

Your profile

Are you a curious, ‘science-holic’, high achiever individual? Do you like to be challenged and practice your creativity by developing new experimental approaches? Are you seeking to approach complex biological problems from unconventional angles and embrace a truly interdisciplinary approach in your daily work? Then you are the right person!

If you have previously worked in the field of genome organization and/or are familiar with different methods to study the (epi)genome, that’s great! However, we also welcome applications from people with different background and expertise who have a strong track record in general molecular/cell biology techniques applied to mammalian cells.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is a state university, which entitles to several benefits such as extended holiday and generous occupational pension. Employees also have access to our modern gym for free and receive reimbursements for medical care.

Location: Solna, SciLifeLab
