We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher position at the Laboratory of Professor Ernest Arenas (http://ernestarenaslab.org/), in the Karolinska Institute, one of the world’s leading biomedical research universities.
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) has about 300 employees and is organized in divisions covering diverse areas of research. The successful candidate will incorporate to the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, a highly interactive, vibrant and very international young research environment formed by seven research groups and about 70 researchers. English is our common language and we use it in all our activities. Our division works in various aspects of molecular neurobiology and has a unique critical mass contributed by researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds and areas of expertise, including advanced cellular and molecular biology, high content single cell technologies, genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, electrophysiology, behavior, imaging, developmental neurobiology, cellular reprogramming and stem cell biology.
Our lab focuses on defining the cell types, gene expression, gene regulatory networks and function of different cell types during midbrain development as well as in Parkinson’s disease (PD). We also work on the development of cell replacement therapies for PD based on the transplantation of stem cell-derived midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) progenitors or the direct reprogramming of endogenous astrocytes in situ, into mDA neurons.
Work in this project will involve the use of diverse single cell technologies and bioinformatics tools in order to profile and define PD and cell replacement strategies for PD at the single cell level.
We are looking for candidates with experience in single-cell/nuclei technologies (such as 10X genomics, ATAC-seq or in situ transcriptomics), single cell data analysis, computational biology tools (Linux, R, Python), imaging (in situ hybridization and confocal microscopy), molecular biology, FACS and previous work in the area of neuroscience.
Experience in working with human pluripotent stem cells, gene editing, cellular reprogramming, genetics and epigenetics and/or previous work on midbrain development and/or neurodegenerative diseases, such as PD, will be considered as additional merits.
Previous training in a multidisciplinary international environment or outside of the country of origin or in a high profile lab will be considered as an advantage. The contribution of the applicant to high quality relevant publications will be a merit. The optimal candidate should be a team player, have initiative, be engaged, organized and goal oriented. Good communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English are required.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
