The postdoctoral studies will be performed in the lab of Assistant Professor Carmen Gerlach (www.gerlachlab.com), which is part of the Division of Rheumatology. Our research is directed at understanding basic cellular and molecular principles governing T cell responses to acute infections and cancer. We strive to understand mechanisms underlying the generation, maintenance and consequences of the heterogeneity within the T cell immune response, with a special focus on CD8 T cells.

Your mission

The postdoc is expected to plan, perform, analyze and document experiments that aim to characterize the clonal relationships of various T cell subsets. The postdoc is expected to plan, perform, analyze and document experiments, and to communicate the results within and outside of the research group. The postdoc is expected to work both independently, and as a collaborative and helpful team member. The duties furthermore include colony maintenance, actively taking part in research meetings, and contributing to the well-functioning of the local research environment.

Your profile

The candidate should hold a doctoral degree upon the start of this position. The PhD work needs to have been done in the area of basic research in cellular immunology. He/She should be highly motivated, with excellent theoretical background and practical experience in T cell immunology. Previous experience and advanced competence in flow cytometry, murine infection models, surgical procedures, cell culture, molecular biology, retroviral transductions and cell-tracing methods are required. Legal permission to work with mice in the EU is required. The position requires dedication to the project, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and a strong desire to excel. Prior postdoctoral experience is highly valued. Good communication skills in both spoken and written English are essential. A personal fit into the team will be of importance.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Location:

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research team of Carmen Gerlach (www.gerlachlab.com)

The lab is physically located at the Center for Molecular Medicine, CMM at the Solna Campus of the Karolinska University Hospital.
