Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, division of Genome Biology

Division
The research conducted at the Research Division of Genome Biology (a part of the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics) explores various aspects of genome metabolism, and how their perturbation can lead to disease. Research in the Bartek group focuses on various mechanistic aspects of the DNA damage response. Of particular interest is discovery of targets and markers for personalized cancer treatment and finding novel components or mechanisms of genome integrity maintenance.

We are currently looking for an ambitious, highly motivated project leader with a solid background in cell, molecular biology and biochemistry to join the research group of Prof. Jiri Bartek.

Duties and Subject area
The project leader is expected to contribute and develop own ideas to the common goal of achieving a better understanding of the cellular DNA damage response in mammalian cells with focus on its functions in cancer development. The candidate for the position will perform original research and acquire and develop the required experimental and computational skills necessary for the completion of the project. The candidate will take a strong lead, and be responsible for the experimental design, implementing novel analytical pipelines to address fundamental questions in collaboration with other team members of the project. The candidate is expected to communicate the scientific results by writing scientific papers and attending local and international scientific meetings.

Entry requirements
The applicant should have a PhD in molecular biology or equivalent field and 4 years postdoc experience. Further, the successful candidate should have a solid background in cancer biology, with focus on DNA damage repair pathways and ribosomal biogenesis.

The candidate must be well familiar with standard techniques including:

  • cell culture models and cell growth assays
  • molecular biology and PCR techniques
  • immunostaining, immunoprecipitation and immunoblot techniques
  • RNA-seq and imaging data analysis

Experience in big data analysis is a merit. In addition, the candidate should have skills in various advanced microscopy methods including high-through put imaging. Experience in RNA-seq and imaging data analysis is a request.

Preferable, the candidate has experiences as project leader. As project leader it is important to have the ability to organize, plan and document experimental bench-work at the highest level and the capacity to stay on top of the relevant research field

The applicant should be fluent in English, both in writing and oral communication.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
