Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Perlmann

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
Two postdoctoral positions are available in the lab of Thomas Perlmann at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet, one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutes. The lab is located at Biomedicum, a newly opened research building with excellent infrastructure and world leading research.

The lab’s primary focus is on the development of dopamine neurons and the ventral midbrain where dopamine neurons are generated. We are unraveling the signaling and transcriptional regulation that govern the specification, differentiation and maintenance of these cells. The studies have resulted in the identification of several transcription factors with key roles in these processes. Moreover, we are also interested in regenerative medicine in relation to Parkinson’s disease and other brain disorders. We are using mouse genetics and methods such as single cell RNA sequencing in our studies. In collaborative projects we also focus on regenerative strategies such as stem cell therapy, and on the maintenance of dopamine neurons in the human brain.

Duties
Two postdoctoral positions are now open in projects devoted to questions concerning the development and subtype specification of dopamine neurons, and mechanisms underlying aging and dopamine neuron maintenance.

Entry requirements
We are looking for two highly motivated scientists who can collaborate, communicate and function well in a team. Candidates should have a PhD and at least a few years of postdoctoral experience preferably in the area of developmental neuroscience. Previous work in the area of dopamine neuron biology is a merit. The following qualifications are desired: Experience in single cell RNA sequencing, experience in studies of the mouse developing CNS, skills and appropriate certificate for mouse animal work (FELASA C or equivalent), cell culture, expertise in histological methods including immunohistochemistry and methods for in situ hybridization, FACS analysis. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement.
