Institutionen för medicin, Solna, Avdelningen för infektionssjukdomar

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.
The Färnert research group focuses on understanding mechanisms of acquisition and maintenance of immunity to malaria with the overall aim to contribute to malaria vaccine development. The group is now seeking a research assistant who will focus on integrating different immune parameters to explain variability in host responses to infection. This work involves collection of new immunological data in addition to bioinformatic analysis of previously collected data from individuals with malaria.
The group is based at the new research laboratories at BioClinicum on the Karolinska University Hospital site in Solna. The experimental environment is located in close proximity to the clinic.

Duties
The research assistant will take an integrative analysis approach to investigate how different clinical and immunological parameters explain patient outcome variables in a previously collected dataset from individuals with malaria. In addition, the position will include some laboratory work, such as cell preparation and proteomic analysis of biological samples.

Entry requirements
The position is for 6 months as a research assistant, starting in September 2019. The applicant should have an MSc degree and knowledge and practical experience of immunological and bioinformatic analysis, especially using Python and R. Previous work with cell culture and proteomic analysis is meriting. Documented education in bioinformatics is a requirement.
The group is seeking a highly motivated and versatile research assistant. The candidate is expected to be organized and able to work independently. The project is pursued in an interdisciplinary environment with collaboration with several research groups, and good collaborative skills are a requirement necessary. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Application process
