Duties
The position entails conducting scientific research of the highest quality in the field of cancer genome biology and tumor heterogeneity, with particular emphasis on developing and applying new molecular methods in the context of projects aimed at improving our understanding of the structure and fragility of cancer genomes. The successful candidate is expected to lead an independent research group that is competitive in the international arena, to contribute to the Department’s scientific and teaching activities, and to have secured funding for all her/his research activities and group for at least four years from the date of obtaining the position.

Research area
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics is committed to strengthening its research activities by recruiting a permanent Senior Researcher with an excellent scientific track record and at least three years of experience as independent research group leader in the field of cancer genome biology and tumor heterogeneity. We are particularly interested in applicants with a mixed clinical and laboratory background, who have a strong focus on cancer and a demonstrated ability to develop novel molecular tools for investigating various aspects of genome biology and tumor heterogeneity.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor (M.D. and/or Ph.D. title) or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant Professor. In addition, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated experience as independent research group leader as judged by number of publications (at least two publications as senior corresponding author accepted at the time of this application), number and amount of grants obtained in open competition, invitations as speaker to local and international conferences, and number of M.Sc./Ph.D. students and postdocs supervised.

Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants. We will give priority to candidates that have already successfully passed, at Karolinska Institutet or at another University, an external evaluation of their career progression (tenure track evaluation).
