Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Pan-Hammarström (PHA)

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Division
The research group of Prof. Qiang Pan-Hammarström works on the molecular mechanism of immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR), genetics of primary immunodeficiency and B-cell lymphomagenesis. The research laboratory is located at campus Flemingsberg. For more information about the group, please see https://ki.se/en/bionut/research-group-qiang-pan-hammarstrom

Duties
The employee will work in our multidisciplinary team of researchers including both clinicians and bioinformaticians. The main task of the successful candidate is to pursue research and research supervision in the field of identifying potentially therapeutic targets and molecular subtypes in mature B-cell lymphomas (in particular virus-associated lymphomas) by next generation-sequencing such as whole genome/exome sequencing, targeted sequencing, RNA-seq and single cell sequencing. The employee is expected to analyze, interpret and integrate these data and write high-quality scientific publications. Other duties include managing the clinical samples and genetic data and contributing to the supervision of PhD, postdoc, master and other students in the group.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence.

Qualifications
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher for the cancer genetic team in our group. The applicant has been awarded a PhD and has at least five-years postdoctoral experience in immunology and/or cancer genetics. He or she should have achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis, with first-authored publications in internationally leading journals in corresponding fields in recent years. Extensive research experience in next generation sequencing techniques/data analysis, including whole genome/exome sequencing, targeted sequencing and RNA-seq, is required. The applicant must be detail-oriented and able to work productively via collaborative interactions with team members.

Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants. The applicants’ track record based on curriculum vitae and bibliography will be assessed. Evidence for the capacity to work and publish in a multidisciplinary environment including researchers, clinicians and bioinformaticians is weighted in ranking the applicants. Reference letters will be requested and considered from selected candidates. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English:

1. Curriculum vitae
2. A complete list of publications
3. A summary of previous and current work (no more than one page)
4. Names of two references with contact details. It is also encouraged to submit two reference letters with the application.

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
