Karolinska Institutet, Dept. of Oncology-Pathology, Research group Göndör

At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.

We are seeking outstanding candidates for two to three post-doctoral fellowships dedicated to explore the role of the epigenome and 3-dimensional nuclear architecture in the emergence of cancer stem-like cell states in breast cancer from entirely novel perspectives. The fellowship period is for one year with possibility of extension for one more year.

Division and duties
The successful applicant is expected to drive a postdoctoral project in the labs of Anita Göndör and Rolf Ohlsson, as well as to participate in collaborative efforts within an interdisciplinary consortium consisting of five laboratories including pre-clinical, clinical and computer scientists. This consortium is aiming at uncovering hitherto unknown therapeutic targets in breast cancer, and is supported by a five-year grant from a major supporter of Swedish science, the KA Wallenberg Foundation. The successful applicant will employ state-of-the-art epigenomic techniques adapted to the analyses of single cells and single cell RNA-seq, and join a lab currently consisting of 5 PhD students, 4 postdocs and four affiliated professors.

Our lab is equipped with a Mi-seq machine and a 5-color confocal microscope, and is located within the Theme Cancer section of Bioclinicum at Karolinska Institutet.

A strong scientific track record, supported by published papers particularly on the subject of chromatin research in well-recognized peer-reviewed journals and previous experience in chromatin research is advantageous. A high level of organizational and communicative skills, as well as an ability to independently perform experiments and implement interpretation of data is mandatory.
