Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Neurogeriatrics

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Our lab addresses fundamental questions in stem cell biology, including how stem cells generate diverse neurons and glial cells during fetal development, maturation, aging as well as under specific disease-associated mutations. By using single-cell and spatial transcriptomics on both human and rodent brain and spinal cord tissue, we have generated different atlases across diverse conditions (development, aging, disease etc.), and established various bioinformatic pipelines, cell and animal models for relevant analyses and validation. We aim to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms for cell fate specification during differentiation, and leverage this new knowledge for therapeutic possibilities, in the context of neurodevelopmental diseases, neurotrauma, and brain tumors.

The project for the future postdoc will be under the supervision of Assistant Professor Xiaofei Li, with a combination of single-cell and spatial omics techniques, bioinformatic analysis, and cell and molecular experiments to address how stem cells are genetically regulated during development, aging and under degenerative conditions in the central nervous system.

Division

The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of about 65 employees. The division conducts experimental and translational research related primarily to different neurodegenerative diseases, but more general molecular mechanisms of biomedical relevance are also studied.

Duties

A postdoctoral position is now open in projects devoted to study the genetic regulations during neurodevelopmental diseases as well as aging.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a key role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results.

Entry requirements

The applicant should be a highly motivated individual who can collaborate and function well in a team. We are looking for a person who holds a PhD in the field of bioinformatics, or cell and molecular biology with a strong background in data analysis, with documented skills in R or Python programming. The candidate should also have interest in neuroscience/ stem cell biology, and with skills preferably in more than one of the following areas: R or Python programming, bioinformatic analysis for single cell RNA-sequencing and/ or spatial transcriptomics data, cell biology, genetics, statistics, and histological methods. Previous experience of analyzing large-scale datasets is meriting. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement.

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
